Murudeshwar is a small town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada, Karnataka State, India.
It is famous for world’s second tallest Shiva Statue, 20 storied gopuram and beautiful beaches

History

According to Ramayan, Lanka King Ravana obtained Atma Linga by praying Lord Shiva based on Condition that he should not place it on the ground.
If he placed it on the ground then it would be impossible to move it. When Ravana returning to Lanka, Lord Ganesha uses a trick and placed Atma Linga at Gokarna which become Mahabaleshwara Temple Gokarna
Ravana tried to destroy the Atma Linga and some pieces fall into different places. Then he threw cloth covering to the Atma Linga to a place called Mrideshwara which later become Murdeshwar

Local Attraction

Shiva Statue in Murudeshwar is second tallest Shiva Statue with a height of 123 ft and the Gopuram is 238 ft tall with 20 stories. The famous Murudeshwara beach is one of another attraction
